Teledyne LeCroy's PTC Solution for PCI Express® 3.0 Compliance Testing Named an Approved Test Tool by PCI-SIG®

Summit™ Z3-16 will run the PCIe® 3.0 Link and Transaction Layer Compliance Tests

Intel Developer Forum, San Francisco, CA, September 9, 2014 - Teledyne LeCroy, a leading supplier of serial protocol test solutions and electrical test equipment, announced today that PCI-SIG® has named the Teledyne LeCroy PTC for PCI Express® (PCIe®) 3.0 technology as an approved test tool for compliance testing for PCI Express 3.0 solutions. PCI-SIG approved Teledyne LeCroy's solution for protocol compliance testing of link and transaction layers.

The Teledyne LeCroy Summit Z3-16 Exerciser is widely used by the PCI Express industry and will execute the new ATS PTC (Protocol Test Compliance) software for PCIe 3.0 solutions. This protocol test compliance software supports comprehensive testing of link and transaction layers of the PCIe protocol implementation on PCI Express-based devices. The Summit Z3-16 exerciser and ATS PTC (Protocol Test Compliance) software will be bundled and sold together as the Teledyne LeCroy PTC for PCIe 3.0 architecture.

"As an active member of PCI-SIG, Teledyne LeCroy contributes to compliance testing as part of the PCI Express ecosystem enablement," said Al Yanes, PCI-SIG president and chairman. "Products such as this provide users with a new tool to validate their PCIe 3.0 implementations and help ensure the interoperability of PCIe 3.0 solutions."

The new PTC for PCIe 3.0 technology can be used by validation and test engineers to check for PCIe protocol compliance and functionality of add-in cards, systems and chips that use PCI Express 3.0 architecture. The PTC requires the Summit T3-8 and PCI Express Test Platform as part of the test configuration. The user interface of the PTC simplifies testing the link and transaction layers, allowing desired tests to be selected from an intuitive menu and then run as a collection or individually by simply pushing a button. A descriptive report is generated indicating which of the tests were passed or failed. A key feature that makes this test solution more useful than previous test solutions is that it provides an additional protocol trace when it determines that a PCIe compliance test has failed. By helping developers understand and fix their problems quickly, the tool allows developers more opportunity to complete their compliance tests during the PCI-SIG compliance workshops which are scheduled at select times during the year.

This test configuration is currently used at the University of New Hampshire Interoperability Lab (UNH-IOL) as the test hardware running the IOL INTERACT™ Teledyne-LeCroy EDITION Software for NVMe® conformance testing for PCIe storage devices. The Summit Z3-16 Exerciser component of this test solution is highly programmable and can emulate host systems that can connect to native PCIe, NVMe, SATA Express and SCSI Express devices.

"The flexibility of the Summit Analyzer/Exerciser system to run a wide range of tests is an important factor in choosing these tools for a PCI Express test lab," said John Wiedemeier, Product Marketing Manager for PCI Express Protocol Analysis at Teledyne LeCroy. "Whether you are interested in standards-based compliance or just using validation testing with your own test scripts, these tools can expedite problem identification and solution, resulting in shorter development cycles in faster time-to-market."

LeCroy protocol analyzers and exercisers have been at the forefront of PCI Express development. All LeCroy protocol analysis and test products feature a hierarchical display, real-time statistics, protocol traffic summaries, detailed error reports, powerful scripting, and the ability to create user-defined test reports, which allow developers to troubleshoot intricate problems and finish their projects on time.

Pricing and Availability

The Teledyne LeCroy PTC for PCIe 3.0 technology is available now. A PTC (Protocol Test Compliance) Software License is also available for Customers who want to add PCIe 3.0 compliance functionality to their existing Summit Z3-16 exercisers.
